WALSH KEEPS IT ALL COOL                                                                            3-10-2006

The Tyrepower Spring Nationals was a night to remember for one reason, the quality of racing. One driver who took up the challenge and delighted many with his drive was young Sammy Walsh. The 19 year old was very pleased with his new car and commented it can still improve.

The new car was pretty good for the first night. We have adapted to the Cool Chassis a lot quicker than we expected. I think the experience in the states has really helped me and we have taken a step in the right direction. If we work hard in the next few rounds we can really make things happen.”

The EWT Auto Dismantlers car crossed the Hogs Breath Café Finish line 6th in the opening round of the Coca Cola Sprintcar Track Championship at Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway. Walsh suffered some minor damage to the front wing affecting handling within the first few laps. It wasn’t until the open red light stoppage on lap 17 that the team could get out and fix the car and alter the set up.

“It took us a while to adapt to the track in the main. We had the set up a little too tight because we thought the track would deteriorate a lot faster than it did. It was a great track all night but I would have liked more of a cushion on the exit of turns two and four to hold the car up nice and high but it didn’t happen.”

The ‘Gasman’ started off the night with 21st position in Time Trials due to going out while the track was still muddy.

“My dad who is normally my crew chief couldn’t make it so we were trying to do it all without him. Though, we did make a lot of phone calls to him during the night.”

He then made a return to score his Second career heat win even after loosing his pole advantage due to engine hesitation. The Lansvale resident then came back hard with a quick Garrett 410ci powered Cool and took the win in style.

The dash starting position was determined by young Peter, with the Seventh position ball been grabbed by his hot little hands meaning more work for Sammy. The #92 machine finished in Fifth position giving him Ninth position on the grid for the main event.

Sam wishes to thank all everyone who makes racing possible including;
