Walsh Eyeing Success despite Late Start to the Season                             15-11-2007

Sammy Walsh will make his 2007/08 season debut this Saturday night (November 17) when he lines up for the latest round of the Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway (TPCR) Sprintcar Track Championship and he is aiming to hit the ground running.

Despite a late start to the season, due to the delayed arrival of his equipment from America, Walsh is looking towards being on the pace from the get go, starting this Saturday night and he hasn’t ruled out a podium finish to kick off the season.

“I feel that it [a podium finish] certainly isn’t out of question, and as I’ve proven in the past that I have the pace to be a podium contender, but it will just be a matter of a few things going in my favour,” remarked Walsh.

“The only thing that is going to be against me is my lack of racing miles, as I haven’t raced in over seventh months [not since last season’s Easter Trail where he finished within the top five of the overall point standings], but once I get back into the groove, things should be all right.”

For the new season Walsh has purchased a brand-new Maxim (Tallboy) to go with his 410ci powered Don Ott built engine, and he feels confident that his package is more than capable of getting him to the pointy end of the field on a regular basis this season.

“I’m very confident about my package for this season, and the aim is to be a front runner, no matter which track I travel to,” said Walsh, who is headed into his third season of Sprintcar racing.

“Although our home base is going to be TPCR the plan is to venture to other tracks interstate, which may include events such as the Warrnambool Classic and the Kings Challenge. With the implement of the 410ci engines Australia wide we are now able to do some travelling, and not just confined to TPCR.”

In terms of success, Walsh is shooting for feature race victories, and the 20-year-old is hoping to capture a handful of them.

“Spending some time over in America during the off season has made me even hungrier for success, and I most certainly have feature race wins in my sights this season,” stated Walsh.

“Our team hasn’t upped the ante in our both equipment and professionalism just to run second, as we are here to win, and I feel capable of making our aims a reality.”

An example of his step up in professionalism this season, Walsh has launched his official website, thanks to the talents of photographic, website and graphic design guru Alan Thompson from www.Sprintcar1.net  and it can be viewed at: www.SammyWalsh.com
