Last
night, young Sammy Walsh emerged as the local star of
the evening with his #92 Maxim finishing fourth in the
sprintcar A Main at the Tyrepower Parramatta City Raceway.
With
the cream of American and local racers on hand, Sammy’s
“gasman” attitude was on show, with him being fast and
impressive all night. He set third quick time in early
qualifying before a solid second placing in heat 3.
In the opening dash race, Sammy was simply too fast
going on to take out a great victory giving him position
one in the all important 30 lap A Main feature.

Sharing
the front row with Outlaws Champ Donny Schatz the more
experienced Schatz won the start, leaving Sammy holding
down second place for a number of laps. Unfortunately
both American stars Daryn Pitman and Steve Kinser gained
the upper hand on Sam putting him back into fourth a
position he would hold until the checker. Despite only
racing sprintcar’s for a couple of years, Sam’s fourth
position placed him ahead of some more experienced drivers.
‘We
had a great night. Maybe got lucky in the dash draw
but after qualifying well I kept it on a roll all night.
It was only the big guys who beat me and that’s nothing
to be ashamed about, they were just better in traffic.
The track was a bit more physical tonight I got tired
and made a few mistakes but my car was great all night.”
