Young
20 year old third generation sprintcar racer Sammy Walsh
continued his forward progress to the top of the local
Australian sprintcar scene with another top line effort
in last weekends $50,000 to win shoot out at the Tyrepower
Parramatta City Raceway.
Last
Sunday’s final night of the 50 grand weekend saw Sam
picking up a second place in the final heat before picking
up a solid fourth in the second dash. That gave Sammy’s
#92 Maxim position 8 in the forty lap A Main final.
Sam was impressive but like many others the track conditions
caught him out but after racing wheel to wheel with
a number of drivers, it was a very creditable ninth
place finish for Sam.

The
Friday qualifying night meeting saw Sammy posting some
great results from 11th in time trails (in a 60 plus
field) a third place in heat 3, second placing to American
star Jason Johnson in the opening Dash. Sam finished
down the order in the preliminary A Main picking up
a solid 12th in the 30 lap feature.
“I’m
disappointed it’s not quite the result everyone wanted.
I was good early then everyone found the rubber and
I struggled from there. Maybe the car was a little too
tight and a wrong combination in chassis set up. I had
a brake problem in the heat and I think I was lucky
to pass a couple of cars in the Dash. We did run up
the front all weekend and were close to the front with
a car that wasn’t quite right.”
Sam
is certainly not backward in coming forward when racing
against some of the best sprintcar racers in the world
and has raced wheel to wheel with both Donny Schatz
and Steve Kinser this summer.
